Chelsea's Kante will let his football speak for him

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has praised new signing N’Golo Kante for his reserved personality, and has backed the France international to be a “fantastic” midfielder for the squad.

Kante left Premier League champions Leicester City for a £30 million move to Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

The former Caen midfielder has impressed new boss Conte during preseason training sessions, leaving the Italian convinced the 25-year-old will play a major role in his side this season.

“We are very happy to have N’Golo with us because he is a player who does not speak a lot, but just does his job,” Conte told reporters ahead of Chelsea’s International Champions Cup match with Real Madrid (3 p.m. ET, ESPN) on Saturday.

“He is in great shape physically. He is a player who keeps on running, someone who has great stamina and endurance. The people who know him better have all told me he has a fantastic attitude and a lot of energy.“He is a good guy, very humble and very keen to work hard, which is important to me. I have had a conversation with him to explain what I expect from him and he can become an important player in midfield, just like [Cesc] Fabregas, [Nemanja] Matic and the others.

“He does not talk a lot, but acts instead. It is not necessary for him to talk a lot. I think he might be a bit shy. I just need a few players who do the talking during the game. He just arrived at a new club and still needs to find his feet a bit. N’Golo can become a fantastic midfielder. He can still improve, maybe he can score a bit more.”

Dangote Immensely commended by Global Bodies for investment in Africa

Global Organised Labour under the aegis of African Industrial Global Union has commended the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his strategic investments across African countries and creating thousands of jobs for the teaming population.

The body, at a meeting in Lagos, called for special recognition for the African entrepreneur, describing him as a success story from African soil for which African countries must be proud of.

Speaking at a network meeting on unionisation in Dangote group, organised by Industrial Global Union Africa Region in Lagos, Union leaders one after another said Dangote has offered a relief to Africa from the negative narratives the western countries latched on to discredit her and her people.

They stated that much as an African could be so patriotic as to be dotting African soil with billions of dollars investments to create jobs and reduce poverty, he needs to be given special recognition to motivate others to tow similar line.

Relishing on the prospective of an African country hosting the single largest Refinery and Petrochemicals train project, the union leaders said it was planning in their next African meeting to bring the business mogul to address global union leaders.

Regional Secretary, Sub-Saharan Africa, Fabian Nkomo said the body cherished the business acumen of Dangote and would like to work closely with him so that as he creates jobs, the union could also partner to ensure job quality is maintained.

He said he has moved round Africa and discovered no one else has invested so much in Africa as an Africa and therefore Dangote should be encouraged. “He has help governments across African states to create vital jobs and reduce poverty among our people, the unions are very proud of him”, Nkomo stated.

In his remark, the Africa Regional Chairman of Industrial Global Union, Issa Aremu who is also the General Secretary of Textile Workers Union commended Aliko Dangote for leading industrialisation in the Africa continent.

Aremu acknowledged the remarkable efforts of Aliko Dangote at re-industrialisation of the continent, stimulating the continent’s growth and creating more jobs for its huge population.

Dangote Group was commended for the strong network of branches across the Africa continent; Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’ Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Senegal, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, Congo, Cameroun, Kenya, Ethiopia among others.The labour leader lauded the commitment of Dangote to sustainable industrial development and urged government to provide favourable environment for investments as well as improvement in infrastructural development.

Aremu added that it was time Dangote group entered into mutually rewarding engagement with relevant unions with a view to unionisation even as he called on trade unions to support business through improved productivity.

He alluded to the $12 billion dollar Refinery, Petrochemicals and Fertilizer projects which he said will be a revolution of the Nigerian industrial space when completed.

As partners in progress, Aremu pledges the support and cooperation of Industrial Global to ensure business-friendly unionization of the Dangote workers.

He nevertheless cautioned the unions involved to be proactive and strategic in approaching the exercise saying “we need to show that we are partners to improve on the businesses of Alhaji Aliko because we are talking of unionization because there is an investment in which workers are engaged. If there there are no businesses, we can’t be talking of unionism.

“So first and foremost, we must be seen to be part of forces that are protecting investments. We are not business killers, if anything we are adding values. So we cherish him as one of the few Nigerians making a good story out of Nigeria and Africa and would like to collaborate with him.

Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery says he feels “more trust” under Carlo Ancelotti since the Italian replaced Pep Guardiola as head coach at the Allianz Arena.

Ribery made just 50 Bundesliga appearances in Guardiola’s three seasons at the helm, beset by a string of injuries and fitness concerns.

The former France international has started all three of Bayern’s pre-season friendlies so far, however, scoring in the wins over Lippstatdt and Landshut.

And, despite the emergence of Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman under Guardiola last season, Ribery feels refreshed as he looks to put his stamp back on the Bayern side in 2016-17.

“He’s a great coach. I need people like him, Jupp Heynckes or Ottmar Hitzfeld. I need this trust in me, to play off my strengths.“I feel free and I am fully motivated,” the 33-year-old told Kicker. “Carlo Ancelotti is a gift for the club. Since Ancelotti has arrived, I feel more trust.

“It all depends on things like trust, respect and proximity. Then I cannot only give 100 percent – I can give 150 percent.

“With Ancelotti we can reach something great and I’m really looking forward to the next season.”

Real Madrid most valuable football club - Forbes

Real Madrid have been overtaken by the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys as the world’s most valuable sports team, according to Forbes magazine.

The La Liga giants had been on top of the rankings for the past three years, and the Cowboys’ jump marks the first time since 2011 a football club has not occupied the top spot.

Real remain the most valuable football club, however, with a calculated value of $3.65 billion (€3.29 billion), topping a list of eight clubs to make the rankings.

La Liga rivals Barcelona were spot behind Real on the list with a value $3.55 billion (€3.20 billion).

Rounding out the other football clubs were Bayern Munich at No. 12 ($2.68bn, €2.41bn), Arsenal at No. 23 ($2.02bn, €1.82bn), Manchester City at No. 28 ($1.92bn, €1.73bn), Chelsea at No. 36 ($1.67bn, €1.50bn), and Liverpool at No. 41 ($1.55bn, €1.40bn).Manchester United were the next football club ranked — fifth overall — with a value of 3.32 billion (€2.99 billion).

In addition to their value, Real Madrid also led all teams in revenue, generating $694 million during the 2014-15 season.

Angela Merkel's popularity boost after refugees dented her appeal

German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s popularity has rebounded after the British vote to leave the EU, an opinion poll showed Saturday, reversing a fall in her appeal caused by the refugee crisis.

The poll was the second in a few days to suggest a popularity boost for the German leader.

Saturday’s poll, commissioned jointly by Stern magazine and Die Welt newspaper and carried out by the Forsa market research institute, showed Merkel’s appeal up two points to 48 percent.

“What’s more, three-quarters of CSU supporters now back Merkel,” said Forsa director Manfred Gullner, referring to the southern German affiliate of Merkel’s ruling CDU party.
The CSU was sharply critical of Merkel’s decision to allow more than 1 million migrants to enter the country.

In a poll published Thursday by public broadcaster ARD 59 percent of those surveyed said they were satisfied with Merkel.

The results of the monthly poll were up nine points on June and was Merkel’s best poll showing since September 2015 when she moved to open the country’s borders to more than 1 million asylum seekers.

The ARD poll, which surveyed 1,500 people and was carried out by Infratest Dimap, showed that Merkel’s CDU party and sister party the CSU had gained two points in voter intentions.

The number of refugees arriving in Germany is falling sharply as a result of the closure of the Balkans migration route and the EU’s deal with Turkey, new government figures showed on Friday.

In April, May and June, the number was around 16,000 each month, less than a fifth of the tally seen at the start of the year, according to data from the government’s Easy computer system, which counts the number of arrivals who plan to seek asylum.

In June, the system registered 16,335 people compared with 91,671 in January and 61,428 in February.

Support for the far-right Alternative for Germany party (AfD) was down at the start of July in both surveys after several months of gains.

The AfD’s popularity dipped one point to nine percent according to the Stern/Welt survey which surveyed 2,500 people, while the party’s appeal dropped three points to 12 percent according to the Infratest poll.

As well as the decline in new migrant arrivals, the party has suffered from infighting amongst its leaders on what policies to adopt.
